Knowledge binds us to ego. 
Knowing liberates
There is difference between knowledge and knowing.

God wants us to" know " ourselves. Knowledge gives nutrition to ego. Ego is a cause of suffering .

That's why
God advised not to eat apples from knowledge tree
and
punishment signifies that after eating apples of knowledge ,Adam and eve have become part of ego and suffering till date.

Knowledge is neither Good nor bad but till "knowing" is illuminated ,the utility of knowledge is always bad.

All these spiritual messages are indicator for us to liberate from knowledge and ego.
